When I was visiting in Australia, I found that Sky and Telescope (Southern Hemisphere edition) was my primary source of information for keeping up on the local events, work of astronomers in the Southern Hemisphere, and advertisements for those items available there. Other publications merely touch on or mention the Southern skies in their articles and photos, but Sky and Telescope publishes a version of the magazine for Southern observers. The one area where it really stands out and fills a gaping hole is in the Southern Hemisphere. Though in the last few decades several other competitors have come along (and a few have gone), Sky and Telescope still remains at the top.
